New footage of a disguised Mercedes-Benz bakkie development mule provides us with what is likely our best look yet at the upcoming commercial vehicle.

The new pick-up truck – which will be based on the Nissan Navara – is widely expected to be badged as the GLT.

The spy footage shows the parked bakkie wearing the usual camouflage, although there's absolutely no doubting its relation to the Navara. We can also see that this mule is missing its front grille, an element that will no doubt make a large contribution to its visual identity.

The German automaker has made it clear that, despite sharing much of its under-the-skin architecture with the new Navara, its bakkie will be engineered and designed by Mercedes staff, insisting that the final product will bear all the "characteristics and features" of a proper Mercedes-Benz.

Our latest information suggests that the production version will hit the market by the second half of 2017, far earlier than originally thought.
