Remember the Yaris hot hatch Toyota revealed earlier this year? The one that won't be coming to South Africa? Well, turns out it will stray from the segment norm in that it won't be turbocharged.

Yes, Toyota has quietly revealed both the official name of the three-door hot hatch, as well as the fact that it will be supercharged.

The supercharged supermini will be dubbed the Toyota Yaris GRMN (that's "Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nürburgring", if you were wondering).

Interestingly, the Japanese automaker has confirmed that the Yaris GRMN will employ a 1,8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, supercharged to produce more than 155 kW. It'll be the only supercharged hot hatch in its segment, since the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Polo GTI prefer turbocharged power.

The new model will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, where it will be displayed alongside the new Yaris WRC and the facelifted Yaris range (complete with a fresh 1,5-litre engine option).
