This is the one that Volkswagen is claiming to be its next Beetle. It's called the ID Concept, and it's basically an autonomous EV that's set to be released to the public in four to nine-years time.

Volkswagen says its revolutionary because of how it connects the digital world with an electric drive system. Its automated drive system intends to provide a new experience of mobility while it keeps you occupied as a passenger.

As far as EV concepts go, this looks pretty much how you would expect it to. It has the aerodynamic egg shape design which is said to be smaller than the current Golf while maintaining a wheelbase almost as long as the Passat's.

B-pillars and door mirrors have been removed on the ID as they are no longer necessary. The structural integrity is said to be maintained by the front and rear doors while mirrors have been replaced by cameras (these will be called e-mirrors).

This concept also uses something called an MEB platform (modular electric drive), something all future EVs from Volkswagen will be based on.

While it can be piloted manually, The ID makes use of an autonomous drive system while communicating to the passengers through a spectrum of ambient lighting colours.

With 960 dm3 of bootspace, depending on your seating configuration it could identified as a versatile EV as well.

Volkswagen hasn't confirmed the battery size for the ID but it will deliver 125 kW, giving it a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8,0 seconds, top speed of 160 km/h and a range varying between 400 -600 km.

While this is just a concept, Volkswagen claims that the ID will be ready as a full-scale production model by 2025. A trial-run model should be ready in four years time.
