Yes, it’s time for another drag race courtesy of the folks over at CarWow in the United Kingdom. This time there's some sibling rivalry at play with the Volkswagen Golf R pitted against the Audi RS3, but there’s a catch. Joining them on the starting line is a Golf R that’s had its engine fettled by Mountune.

Stock standard, the Volkswagen Golf R sports a 2,0-litre turbocharged four-pot that pushes 228 kW and 400 N.m to all four wheels. Clearly this isn’t enough to compete with the Audi RS3’s 294 kW and 480 N.m 2,5-litre five-cylinder.

That’s why the Volkswagen Golf R by Mountune has been thrown into the mix. This build by the British tuning house pushes the EA888 to 265 kW and 500 N.m of torque, giving it a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3,7 seconds; that’s quite a bit faster than the RS3’s claimed time of 4,1 seconds.

Watch the video above to see the three hot hatches do battle in a straight line, race from a rolling start and compete in a braking test…
