It was always going to happen, wasn’t it? Yes, the Volkswagen Amarok V6 has lined up against the Mercedes-Benz X350d for a drag race, thanks to the folks over at Turkish publication 4x4 Dünyası.

Filmed on a new section of road not yet open to the public, the drag race sees the two V6-powered bakkies do battle to 60 km/h and 100 km/h, rather than over the traditional quartermile.

In this case, the most powerful Amarok (which is not yet offered in South Africa) is used, with its 3,0-litre turbodiesel offering the full-fat 190 kW (or 200 kW on overboost for short periods) and 580 N.m. The X350d’s oil-burning 3,0-litre V6, meanwhile, makes 190 kW and 550 N.m. While both are all-wheel drive, the VW features an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Benz has a seven-speeder.

Since the video above is quite long (and not in English), we’d suggest skipping forward to the 11:50-mark to get straight to the drag race...
