The folks over at Lovecars have lined up the new Aston Martin DBX for a drag race with the Lamborghini Urus.

As a reminder, the Urus employs the Volkswagen Group’s twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8, here tuned to deliver 478 kW and 850 N.m to all four corners via a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s enough, says the Italian firm, for a blast from zero to 100 km/h in just 3,6 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h.

The DBX, meanwhile, draws its urge from a Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 linked to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Generating 405 kW and 700 N.m, Aston Martin says the engine is good for a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,5 seconds and a top speed of 292 km/h.

While there’s certainly a power and performance difference between these two SUVs, in South Africa they are fairly similarly priced, with the Lamborghini starting at R3 995 000 and the Aston at R3 899 000.
