Albert Biermann, the head of Hyundai’s high-performance N division, has revealed that the Korean automaker has been experiencing supply issues with its i30 N hot hatch.

“We’re at over 1,400 back orders in Germany, so supply has been an issue,” Biermann told Auto Express.

“But the reaction has been very positive. We set ourselves a position on performance and handling and it seems that it is a good balance,” he added.

Back in August 2017, Hyundai said that a mere two days after the reservation period opened, all 100 examples of the i30 N First Edition offered in Germany were sold.

Revealed in July 2017, the Hyundai i30 N employs a 2,0-litre turbocharged engine worth up to 202 kW (with the Performance Package specified) and 353 N.m, with drive sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

At the start of 2018, Biermann announced that the automaker would soon start rolling out optional “N Sport” packages for various standard models, including the standard i30.

“We’ll bring i30 N Line to market later this year,” Biermann confirmed to the British publication in the latest report.

“We have reprofiled quite a lot of it over the conventional car: the steering, the gearshift, the springs, shocks and dampers. It should be a useful new model in the range and help to build the N brand.”
