A fresh report out of India suggests Hyundai’s latest trademark filing points to a new badge set to be worn by the upcoming seven-seater version of the second-generation Creta.

According to MotorBeam, the Korean firm trademarked the “Alcazar” name in India in mid-April 2020. Interestingly, the official document confirms the badge has been set aside for use on a “sport utility vehicle”.

The Indian publication suggests the Alcazar nameplate is “very likely” to be used on the upcoming seven-seater version of the Creta. The newcomer, which has already been spotted undergoing testing, is widely expected to hit the market in India in early 2021.

MotorBeam says the seven-seater model will gain a revised grille, redesigned bumpers, new taillamps and (of course) larger dimensions to accommodate its third row of two seats. It seems likely to be offered with the same powertrain choices as the conventional Creta.

The second-generation Creta was revealed in February 2020 and is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the final quarter of the year. Once the seven-seater version is officially unveiled, we’ll no doubt learn whether or not there are plans to offer it locally.
