Bentley Motors has unveiled an updated version of its flagship Bentayga Speed, which retains its twin-turbo 6,0-litre W12 engine.

Based on the recently facelifted Bentayga, the range-topping Speed variant employs a twin-turbo 6,0-litre W12 engine delivering an unchanged 467 kW and 900 N.m (the latter on tap from 1 500 to 5 000 r/min) to all four wheels.

As before, the 0-100 km/h sprint takes a claimed 3,9 seconds, with top speed listed as a heady 306 km/h.

The British firm says the Bentayga Speed’s optional carbon-ceramic brakes are the “largest and most powerful” items offered by Bentley. They furthermore provide a weight saving of “more than 20 kg” over the standard iron brakes.

You’ll be able to identify the Speed variant out on the road thanks to its dark-tinted headlamps, body-coloured side skirts, model-specific front and rear bumpers and tailgate spoiler. At the rear, the tailpipe finishers now take on an oval design.

Inside, the Bentayga Speed features a model-specific colour split, with Alcantara used on the seat cushions, backrest centre panels, gear lever, steering wheel, lower knee-trim area, upper pillar trim and headliner. As with other facelifted Bentayga variants, the Speed gains a new 10,9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also features a fully digital driver’s information panel similar to that employed by the latest Continental GT and new Flying Spur.

“The new Bentayga has already raised the benchmark for luxury SUVs, against which all others are measured. Ahead of the launch of the new Bentayga Hybrid – the world’s only definitive luxury hybrid – in the coming months, it’s important that we still recognise the customer desire for absolute performance,” said Adrian Hallmark, Bentley’s chairman and chief executive.

“The new Bentayga Speed remains the fastest SUV in the world, but more that, it’s also the most luxurious version of the new Bentayga – the best of both worlds, the pinnacle.”
