The new Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI will be revealed at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in March, according to a fresh report.

Autocar says the Wolfsburg-based firm has confirmed the hot hatch version of the eighth-generation Golf will make its debut at the Swiss show early in March.

The GTI is set to be the first Golf 8 derivative to launch in South Africa towards the end of 2020, with a 1,4 TSI variant and the flagship Golf R to follow.

The publication furthermore reports the GTD – which has not been confirmed for SA (it's worth noting the Golf 7 GTD was removed from the local range in mid-2019 thanks to flagging sales) – will be shown off alongside the GTI in Geneva.

And the all-paw Golf R? Well, Autocar says the wraps will come off this model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom in July.

At the reveal of the Golf 8 late in 2019, VW announced the performance variants in the new range would be revealed “over the course of the next year”, with power for the Golf GTI, Golf GTI TCR and Golf R again coming from a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (in various states of tune, of course).
