A report soon after the reveal of the new Land Rover Defender suggested the British brand had scrapped plans to build a bakkie variant. But that hasn’t stopped a digital artist from rendering one.

X-Tomi Design spent a little time digitally transforming the long-wheelbase Defender 110 derivative into a single-cab pick-up. Interestingly, the artist opted to use a high-spec variant as a base rather than going with the entry-level trim (which would have allowed steel wheels to be specified).

The rendered bakkie’s load-bin looks fairly compact and also houses the spare wheel. Of course, if Land Rover were to change its mind and put a Defender pick-up into production, it would in all likelihood ride on a modified version of the new model’s platform and thus end up being unibody in construction (rather than body-on-frame).

For the record, after the reveal of the new Defender, “senior source” within the Jaguar Land Rover group told an Australian publication plans for the range to again include a pick-up had been abandoned.
