While South Africans continue to hope (in vain, we fear) for a local introduction of the Volkswagen Saveiro, a digital artist has released renders of a double-cab bakkie based on the new Golf 8 Alltrack.

Of course, such a model is almost certainly not on the cards, even if Ford is reportedly developing a small unibody bakkie (likely to be badged as the "Maverick") based on the Focus platform.

Created by Brazil-based designer Kleber Silva, these latest renders depict a pick-up version of the recently revealed new Golf Alltrack.

Silva made few changes up front, but he did increase the ride height further, add more robust wheel-arch trim and digitally fitted chunkier roof rails. And, of course, he’s slapped a useful little load bay on the back, while interestingly retaining the Alltrack’s taillamp design.

As a reminder, Europe's new Golf Alltrack will ship standard in 4Motion permanent all-wheel-drive guise, boast a braked towing capacity of up to 2 000 kg and feature model-specific touches inside. VW has yet to announce exactly which engines will be available with the Alltrack.
