The new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster has made its debut at the Geneva International Motor Show, with the Italian automaker revealing its open-top version of the hard-edged coupé.

Just 800 units of the newcomer will be produced.

The firm says its new Aventador SVJ Roadster “upholds the exceptional performance, handling and aerodynamic superiority” of the coupé, while adding plenty of “open-air exhilaration”. At 1 575 kg, the topless model weighs 50 kg more than the SVJ coupé.

As in the hard-top version, urge comes from a V12 producing 566 kW and 720 N.m, which Lamborghini promises is enough for a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds (one-tenth slower than the coupé). The 200 km/h mark is reached in a claimed 8,8 seconds, while top speed is apparently “more than 350 km/h”.

The roadster’s roof is fashioned from carbon-fibre and is removable via quick-release levers in the cabin. The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based firm says it can be securely stored under the bonnet when not in use.
