The top three finalists in each of the six categories of the 2018 World Car Awards have been announced at the Geneva International Motor Show.

A jury of 82 international automotive journalists from 24 countries whittled down each original list of finalists to just three, voting by secret ballot.

The seven finalists that fell away in the main World Car of the Year category were the Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW X3, Kia Stinger, Land Rover Discovery, Nissan Leaf, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen T-Roc, leaving the Mazda CX-5, Range Rover Velar and Volvo XC60 to fight for the trophy.

The winners will be revealed at the New York International Auto Show on March 28.
