Peugeot South Africa has confirmed its product plans for 2021, with five new or facelifted models on the cards.

The French firm’s local arm says the new 2008 is scheduled to touch down in “early 2021”. As a reminder, the second-generation model is a whopping 140 mm longer than the original. Local powertrain options have yet to be confirmed, although Europe receives petrol, diesel and fully electric variants.

Peugeot says the new 208 is also due in 2021. Although the firm doesn’t state a targeted introduction date, we suspect it’s been pencilled in for launch fairly early in the year, since the latest 208 was revealed as long ago as February 2019.

What else is coming? Well, the 3008 and 5008 were both recently handed facelifts, with the refreshed models set to arrive on local shores later in the year.

Finally, Peugeot says its new Landtrek bakkie is scheduled hit South Africa in the final quarter of 2021. Unveiled in February 2020, the newcomer shares much with the Changan Kaicheng F70, a bakkie offered in China (Peugeot and Changan have a joint venture in that country, after all).

Last we heard from Peugeot South Africa, it planned to bring in both single- and double-cab variants. The Landtrek (not to be confused with the Peugeot Pick Up revealed in 2017) measures 5 330 mm long in double-cab form, with a width of 1 920 mm and a wheelbase of 3 180 mm. The company claims the Landtrek boasts the “most accommodating” load bay in its segment.

Peugeot says the payload is as high as 1,2 tonnes on some versions, while certain derivatives can tow up to a claimed 3,5 tonnes. Ground clearance ranges from 214 mm to 235 mm.

Powerplant options overseas include a 1,9-litre turbodiesel offering 110 kW and 350 N.m, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox from Getrag; and a turbocharged 2,4-litre petrol unit generating 155 kW and 320 N.m. The latter will be offered in both manual and six-speed automatic form. Both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations will be available, with the latter boasting low range.
