Peugeot South Africa continues to tinker with its local line-up, this time cutting pricing on the two entry-level derivatives in its 208 hatchback range while also reducing the sticker-price affixed to the two diesel versions of its 3008.

Yes, in its latest pricing bulletin, the local distributor for the French brand lists the 208 Active 1,2 PureTech for R199 900, which makes it a considerable R25 000 cheaper than before. The Allure 1,2 PureTech, meanwhile, now comes in R10 000 lighter at R229 900.

Both of these models are powered by a naturally aspirated 1,2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine worth 60 kW and 118 N.m, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Pricing for the pair of turbocharged GT-Line models in the four-strong 208 range is unchanged.

Meanwhile, the diesel-powered 3008 Active 2,0 HDi is now priced at R429 900 and its 3008 Allure 2,0 HDi auto sibling at R479 900, both some R20 000 cheaper than before. These derivatives are powered by a 2,0-litre oil-burner sending 110 kW and 370 N.m to the front wheels. Pricing for the petrol-powered 3008 variants remains as is.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Peugeot SA has revised pricing for its diesel 3008 models; it adjusted the figures downwards as recently as February 2018 (soon after the oil-burners were added to the range). In addition, in March 2018 the brand trimmed the local 3008 range from seven to five derivatives, effectively scrapping the Allure+ and GT Line+ derivatives.
