Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger? The battle for the title of South Africa's best-selling bakkie continues. So, what happened with May's sales?

We've already reported that new vehicle sales in South Africa fell some 10,3% to 42 907 units in May 2016.

And we’ve also taken a look at the individual figures released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), picking out the ten best-selling passenger cars for the month.

Now, we're turning our attention to the light commercial segment, and have identified the ten best-selling bakkies of May 2016.

The new Toyota Hilux has hung onto the crown for May, managing to sell some 388 units more than the second-placed Ford Ranger. The Isuzu KB, meanwhile, again slotted neatly into third.

Not far behind, the Chevrolet Utility took fourth, with the Nissan NP200 just a few sales off in fifth (after more than doubling its efforts from last month). The Nissan NP300, meanwhile, grabbed sixth, while the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up moved up one place to seventh.

This forced the Volkswagen Amarok down to eighth, while the Nissan Navara returned to the table in ninth. The Mahindra Bolero again rounded out the top ten, which meant there was no space for the likes of the Mazda BT-50 (43) and outgoing Mitsubishi Triton (7).

See the top ten list below, and have a look at April's figures here.
